About the role
This position ensures the Food and Nutrition Services department operates efficiently while maintaining high standards of confidentiality, ethics, and compliance with hospital policies.
Responsibilities
- Maintains utmost level of confidentiality at all times.
- Adheres to hospital policies and procedures and demonstrates ethical business practices.
- Supervises department staff in all food preparation and dish room operations, ensuring proper techniques are used.
- Adjusts staffing levels in each area of the department as needed.
- Ensures established procedures and standards are maintained in all work areas.
- Keeps patient kardexes current and records changes in formula/diet as necessary.
- Writes modified menus and interviews patients for food preferences and satisfaction under the supervision of the Food and Nutrition Service Director.
- Follows up on any discrepancies found in patient feedback or meal preparation.
- Checks patient census before each meal and adjusts the number of trays delivered accordingly.
- Records total meals on Meal Census Sheets.
- Performs quality improvement tasks, including checking food temperatures, texture, taste, accuracy of preparation, NPO status of patients, plate waste studies, and other required QI tasks.
- Observes food preparation methods, cooking, and portion sizes to ensure compliance with prescribed standards.
- Answers telephone, takes messages, and relays information to the correct personnel.
- Retrieves menus and diet requisitions as needed.
- Supervises cleaning jobs to ensure sanitation requirements are met.
- Fills out nourishment sheets and ensures all patients receive their nourishments.
- Assists in taking physical inventory of food and supplies on a regular basis.
- Trains and orients new employees as required.
- Inspects each workstation at the beginning and end of each shift to ensure personnel are present and stations are prepared for the next shift.
- Performs duties in the kitchen, trayline, cafeteria, and dish room as needed due to staffing issues.
- Ensures cashier reports and cash are accurate and requests change for the department as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- One year certificate from a college or technical school; or
- Three to six months of related experience and/or training; or
- Equivalent combination of education and experience.
