FIT NYC Full-Time Faculty Position in Textile Development and Marketing, School of Business and Tech

About the Role

The Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), an internationally renowned college of art and design, business and technology of the State University of New York, invites applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty position in the Textile Development and Marketing department of the Jay and Patty Baker School of Business and Technology. This role focuses on delivering hands-on instruction with a strong emphasis on innovation, sustainability, and the development of functional knit fabrics across diverse sectors, including fashion, athletics, medical, military, and industrial applications.

The Textile Development and Marketing program prepares students for success in careers within the global textile industry, emphasizing global sourcing, fabric research and development, and end-use applications. The program upholds high performance benchmarks required by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP).

Responsibilities

• Teach core and advanced undergraduate courses in textile science and technology, focusing on both warp and weft knitting applications.
• Lead the integration of emerging trends, such as bio-materials and sustainable textile practices, into the curriculum.
• Assist in lab leadership and oversight of the department's state-of-the-art textile lab facilities, including hands-on operation, maintenance, and programming of advanced knitting equipment and machinery.
• Serve as a dedicated mentor to students, guiding their academic progress, supporting career readiness, and fostering a diverse, inclusive learning environment.
• Actively build and sustain strategic partnerships with industry leaders, trade associations, and alumni to enhance experiential learning and recruitment opportunities.
• Support the school and department's strategic initiatives by serving on department, school, and college-wide committees, participating in administrative duties, and contributing to ACBSP accreditation efforts.
• Other duties may be assigned consistent with the classification of the position.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in textile technology, textile biomaterials, textile science, textile engineering, or related fields.
• 7+ years of industry experience in technical knitting, with demonstrated expertise in warp and weft knitting applications.

Preferred Qualifications

• Postgraduate degree in textile technology, textile biomaterials, textile science, textile engineering, or related fields.
• A portfolio demonstrating knitwear expertise, technical and prototype development.
• Teaching experience in a college/university environment, mentorship, and/or experience in corporate training.

• Professionalism: Creates and maintains a network of alumni and industry experts for course development, guest speaking, internships, and student placement. Develops research programs that benefit the college academically and financially. Demonstrates active engagement in the profession and scholarly or creative expression.
• Technology: Demonstrates effective use of technology and electronic information to deliver course material. Proficient with knitting equipment such as Stoll and Brother knitting machines. Understands and manages new industry technologies related to knitted textiles. Familiar with professional written, oral, visual, and technological presentation standards.

Pay

The final starting salary and appointment rank will be based on education level and cumulative experience, per the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) Salary Schedules:

• Instructor: $69,346.37 - $80,793.82
• Assistant Professor: $80,736.40 - $118,984.88
• Associate Professor: $94,498.31 - $142,271.78
• Professor: $115,232.32 - $173,403.37
