FIT NYC Adjunct Faculty Pool - Textile Development and Marketing, Knitting
FIT, an internationally renowned college of art and design, business, and technology within the State University of New York, seeks a part-time adjunct faculty member for the Textile Development and Marketing Department in the Jay and Patty Baker School of Business and Technology. About the role
The Textile Development & Marketing department is building a pool of qualified knitting specialists to potentially fill adjunct teaching positions. This is an opportunity for professionals in textile science with expertise in knitting and related processes to contribute to academia while helping students develop their skills.
Responsibilities
- Deliver relevant course material and assess student performance.
- Provide guidance to students both in and out of the classroom, including open lab settings.
- Assist students with knitting on various machines (Brother, Dubied, Stoll) and hand-related techniques, problem-solving, and experimentation.
- Offer insight and guidance on design ideas aligned with industry practices.
- Maintain and repair knitting machines (Dubied, Stoll, Brother) and linkers.
- Work with IT to update knitting software and computers as needed.
- Submit grades on time.
Courses
Potential courses include TS116, TS332, TS367, TS368, TS461, TT381, and TT382. Detailed descriptions are available in the online catalog.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in the field or a closely related discipline.
- Minimum of seven (7) years of professional experience in the field.
- Working knowledge of Brother knitting machines, Dubied machines, and Stoll machines.
- Demonstrated knowledge of principles and methods of curriculum and training design, teaching, and instruction.
Preferred Qualifications
- MBA or Master’s degree in the field or a closely related discipline.
- Teaching experience at the college level.
Pay
Compensation is governed by the UCE-FIT Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). The base rate is $89.98 per hour for candidates meeting minimum qualifications. Final rate, step, and appointment rank may be higher based on demonstrated qualifications and the school’s criteria for hiring above the first step, as outlined in the CBA Adjunct Salary Schedules (pp 88-89).

Schedule
