About the role

The Textile/Surface Design department seeks adjunct instructors for TD 334 Complex Dobby Wovens. Candidates will teach advanced multi-harness drafting, operate 16–24 harness hand looms (AVL compu-dobby preferred), and use industry-standard software such as Pointcarre or Nedgraphics for dobby design and technical packs. Ideal candidates possess strong layout, repeat, and color skills; the ability to analyze market trends; and experience designing wovens for fashion or home markets or a robust fiber-arts practice.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver course material in TD 334 Complex Dobby Wovens.
  • Assess student performance and provide guidance both in and out of the classroom.
  • Submit grades on time.
  • Instruct safe use of tools and machinery.
  • Communicate conceptual ideas through lectures and visual presentations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.
  • Six years of relevant industry experience or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications

  • One year of college-level teaching experience.
  • Master of Fine Arts degree or equivalent.
  • Experience setting up floor looms and technical product development.
  • Expertise in 24-harness technical weave knowledge, including industry terminology and yarns.
  • Proficiency with Pointcarre or ability to quickly master proprietary software.
  • Ability to draft complex constructions and present woven structures visually.

Schedule

Part-time adjunct position beginning Spring 2026.

Pay

$89.98 per hour based on minimum qualifications. Final rate, step, and rank may be higher if the candidate meets additional school criteria for “above the first step” placement per the UCE-FIT Collective Bargaining Agreement.
