FIT, an internationally renowned college of art and design, business, and technology within the State University of New York, invites applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty position in the Fashion Business Management department of the Jay and Patty Baker School of Business and Technology.

The college offers more than 45 majors and grants AAS, BFA, BS, MA, MFA, and MPS degrees, preparing students for professional success and leadership in the global marketplace. With close ties to industry, FIT draws faculty from New York City’s art, business, and design elite, seeking creative educators who demonstrate exceptional professional capability in instruction design, learning enrichment, globalism, and technology.

About the Role

The Jay and Patty Baker School of Business and Technology prepares students for dynamic management and leadership roles within the global fashion and creative industries. The curriculum integrates market dynamics, advanced business technology, and global competition, fostering an immersive professional environment that bridges business and creativity. The school collaborates with the School of Art and Design and the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences to cultivate critical thinking, ethical responsibility, teamwork, and communication skills.

The Fashion Business Management department oversees both an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) and Bachelor of Science (BS) degree. The curriculum emphasizes teamwork, cultural awareness, and the communication and technology skills essential for today’s global fashion business environment. Students gain a global perspective through academic and experiential learning, developing creative and analytical skills for careers in retail buying, planning and allocation, product development, retail and wholesale management, data analytics, and multi-channel merchandising.

Responsibilities

  • Teach courses in fashion business practices, AI applications in fashion, retail math, planning, fashion business digital technology, and data analytics.
  • Develop engaging learning experiences that promote critical thinking, analysis, problem-solving, and active learning.
  • Contribute to curriculum development and enhancement in areas such as fashion analytics, planning, digital technology, artificial intelligence, and merchandising strategies.
  • Advise and mentor students, supporting experiential learning through internships, seminars, industry events, and professional development activities.
  • Cultivate strategic partnerships with industry leaders and academic institutions.
  • Serve on department, school, and college-wide committees; support accreditation and assessment initiatives; and participate in administrative duties and special projects.
  • Advance the department’s and school’s strategic priorities by integrating innovative industry practices and learning experiences into the classroom.

Requirements

  • MBA or master’s degree in a field related to the fashion industry, or enrollment in a master’s degree program in progress toward completion.
  • 7+ years of management experience in fashion analytics, planning and digital technology, and/or merchandising strategies.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex concepts clearly.

  • College-level teaching or instructional experience.

Pay

Salary is based on education level and cumulative experience, per the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) Salary Schedules (pgs. 73-74):

  • Instructor: $69,346.37 – $80,793.82
  • Assistant Professor: $80,736.40 – $118,984.88
  • Associate Professor: $94,498.31 – $142,271.78
  • Professor: $115,232.32 – $173,403.37
