About the Institution

The Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), an internationally renowned college of art and design, business and technology, and part of the State University of New York, has been a leader in career education for over 70 years. About the Role

The History of Art department is recruiting a pool of applicants for possible adjunct teaching positions. Successful candidates will teach one or more of the following fashion history survey courses:

• HA 118 - Introduction to Fashion History: Materials, Motifs & Meanings
• HA 119 - World Textiles: History and Culture
• HA 201 - History of Fashion Photography
• HA 215 - History of Menswear in Europe and North America
• HA 237 - Global Fashion: Ancient Origins to Modern Styles
• HA 342 - History of Textile Design
• HA 344 - European Fashion: Ancient Origins to Modern Styles
• HA 347 - Costume and Fashion in Film

Adjunct instructors deliver course material, assess student performance, provide guidance both in and out of the classroom, and submit grades on time. Course descriptions are available in the online catalog.

Requirements

• Earned Master's degree, plus thirty (30) additional and appropriate graduate credits and/or evidence of scholarly achievement, professional activities, and teaching experience.
• The Master's degree requirement may be waived if the candidate is in a doctoral program where it is not required.

Qualifications

Preferred: PhD or other terminal degree in a related field.

Schedule

This is a part-time, adjunct teaching position beginning in Spring 2026. Review of applications will commence immediately and continue until the position is filled. The department will maintain this posting to create a pool of candidates for potential future assignments.

Pay

Compensation is governed by the UCE-FIT Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). The base rate is $89.98 per hour based on minimum qualifications. The final rate, step, and appointment rank may be higher depending on the candidate's ability to meet additional criteria for hiring "above the first step," as outlined in the CBA Adjunct Salary Schedules (pp 88-89).
