FIT NYC Adjunct Faculty Pool - History of Art, European/American Art Survey Courses

The Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), an internationally renowned college of art and design, business, and technology within the State University of New York, invites applications for a part-time adjunct faculty position in the History of Art Department, School of Liberal Arts and Sciences. About the Role

The History of Art Department is recruiting applicants for potential adjunct teaching positions. Successful candidates will teach one or more of the following European art history survey courses:

• HA 111 - History of Art and Civilization in the Mediterranean and Beyond: Ancient Prehistory Through the Middle Ages
• HA 112 - History of European Art and Civilization: Renaissance to the Modern Era
• HA 218 - Art and Myth in the Classical World
• HA 231 - Modern Art in Europe and North America
• HA 411 - Western Theories of Art

Adjunct instructors deliver course material, assess student performance, provide guidance, and submit grades on time. Course descriptions are available in the online catalog.

Requirements

• Earned Master’s degree, plus thirty (30) additional graduate credits and/or evidence of scholarly achievement, professional activities, and teaching experience.
• The Master’s degree requirement may be waived if the candidate is in a doctoral program where it is not required.

Qualifications

Preferred: PhD or other terminal degree in a related field.

Schedule

This is a part-time adjunct teaching position beginning in Spring 2026. Review of applications will commence immediately and continue until the position is filled. The department will maintain this posting to create a pool of candidates for potential future assignments.

Pay

The UCE-FIT Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) governs compensation. The base rate is $87.14 per hour for minimum qualifications. Final rate, step, and appointment rank may be higher based on demonstrated qualifications, as outlined in the CBA Adjunct Salary Schedules (pp 88-89).
