About the Institution

The Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), an internationally renowned college of art and design, business and technology, and part of the State University of New York, invites applications for a part-time adjunct faculty position in the History of Art Department, within the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

FIT has been a leader in career education for over 70 years, offering a curriculum that blends hands-on, practical experience with classroom study and a firm grounding in the liberal arts. The college provides more than 45 majors and grants AAS, BFA, BS, MA, MFA, and MPS degrees, preparing students for professional success and leadership in the global marketplace.

The School of Liberal Arts and Sciences provides the foundation for an FIT degree, integrating traditional academic study with career preparation. It is home to seven academic departments, 17 minors, and two interdisciplinary majors, fostering an understanding of diverse cultures and international perspectives.

About the Role

The History of Art department is recruiting a pool of applicants for possible adjunct teaching positions. Successful candidates will teach one or more of the following global art history survey courses:

  • HA 115 - Crossroads: Global Art and History, 1450-1750
  • HA 121 - Cities and Civilizations: The Eastern Mediterranean World, c. 3000 BCE-1000 CE
  • HA 131 - Global Modern Art, 1750-1950
  • HA 228 - Oceanic Art and Civilization
  • HA 246 - Art and Social Justice in New York

Adjunct instructors deliver course material, assess student performance, provide guidance both in and out of the classroom, and submit grades on time. Course descriptions are available in the online catalog.

Requirements

  • Earned Master's degree, plus thirty (30) additional and appropriate graduate credits and/or evidence of scholarly achievement, professional activities, and teaching experience.
  • The Master's Degree requirement may be waived if the candidate is in a doctoral program where it is not required.

Qualifications

Preferred: PhD or other terminal degree in a related field.

Schedule

This is a part-time, adjunct teaching position beginning in Spring 2026. Review of applications will commence immediately and continue until the position is filled. The department will keep this posting open to create a pool of candidates for potential future adjunct assignments.

Pay

Compensation is governed by the UCE-FIT Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). The base rate is $89.98 per hour based on minimum qualifications. The final rate, step, and appointment rank may be higher if the candidate meets additional criteria for hiring "above the first step," as outlined in the CBA Adjunct Salary Schedules (pp 88-89).
