Financial Counseling Representative

About the role

As an R1 Financial Counseling Associate, you will counsel uninsured and under-insured patients to secure funding sources for their medical services. You will conduct compassionate, accurate financial counseling sessions with patients, explaining financial options and obligations. The role requires multi-tasking across multiple systems, clear communication, and building trust with patients in sensitive situations. A thorough understanding of Medicaid and other funding programs is essential.

Responsibilities

• Conduct financial counseling sessions directly with patients to explain financial options and obligations.
• Assist patients in navigating funding sources, including Medicaid and other assistance programs.
• Communicate complex coverage enrollment information clearly and efficiently.
• Multi-task and navigate multiple systems to support patient financial needs.
• Provide compassionate and authentic communication to build trust with patients.
• Accurately document patient interactions and financial counseling outcomes.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Compassionate communication abilities.
• Ability to remain mobile throughout the day to perform essential job duties.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience as a financial counselor.
• Background in medical terminology.
• Understanding of State and Federal assistance programs.
• Relevant healthcare experience.

Pay

The base pay range for this position is $16.48 – $23.13 per hour. Individual pay is determined by role, level, location, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
