Facilities Maintenance Support I - Public Works

About the Role

The City of Billings is seeking a Facilities Maintenance Support I to perform routine cleaning and sanitation of assigned facilities and grounds.

Responsibilities

• Performs routine cleaning and sanitation duties, including floors, walls, windows, sidewalks, restrooms, work areas, break areas, and public access areas of public buildings.
• Uses vacuum cleaners, floor scrubbers, carpet cleaners, polishers, and hand cleaning supplies to maintain facilities.
• Safely uses cleaning chemicals, some of which may be caustic or produce toxic gases if improperly mixed.
• Removes waste material to dumpsters and recyclable materials to proper collection locations.
• Removes snow from sidewalk areas and treats ice conditions with salt or sand.
• Waters plants inside buildings and in immediate outdoor areas.
• Cleans break areas and maintains supplies in restrooms.
• Performs regular inventory of cleaning and janitorial materials; notifies supervisor when stocks are low.
• May order department supplies and prepare purchase orders for replenishment as directed by policy.
• Receives and stores janitorial supplies in designated areas.
• Observes and reports safety and security threats, burnt-out lights, unattended packages, or other hazards to proper authorities.
• Monitors heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems; reports out-of-order conditions to maintenance staff.
• Performs work in accordance with safety regulations, guidelines, and practices.
• Observes activity in and around buildings and grounds for security and safety issues.
• Provides routine responses to the public on basic questions, such as directions.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Ability to follow basic written instructions and simple diagrams.
• At least six (6) months of general custodial work experience or equivalent.
• Ability to answer basic questions from the public courteously.
• Possession of a valid driver’s license.
• Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug test and a Federal and State criminal history background check.

Pay

Salary range: $17.2179 – $21.9490 per hour. Salary reflects Step 1 and Step 6 of a 7-step pay scale. Starting salary depends on education, experience, and training.

Schedule

Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
