Public Works Maintenance

About the role

This is a full-time, on-site Public Works Maintenance role located in Lorena, TX. The position is responsible for performing daily maintenance and repair of city infrastructure, including streets, sidewalks, drainage systems, parks, and public facilities.

Responsibilities

• Operate light and medium equipment
• Perform basic carpentry and concrete work
• Maintain landscaped areas
• Assist with utility and sign maintenance as needed
• Conduct routine inspections
• Report problems and emergency situations to supervisors
• Follow safety procedures
• Respond to service requests or urgent maintenance needs
• Collaborate with colleagues
• Support special projects and seasonal tasks as assigned

Qualifications

• General labor work using basic tools, vehicles, and equipment
• Follows safety precautions in all work performed
• Reports problems and emergency situations
• Works within scope of authority and training
• May vary depending on job assignment and individual skills
• Skill in operating and maintaining hand tools, power tools, and light to medium-duty equipment
• Knowledge of safe work practices, willingness to follow safety protocols, and ability to work in outdoor conditions and physically demanding settings
• Strong reliability, attention to detail, and ability to follow written and verbal instructions
• Completes work logs and communicates effectively with supervisors and team members
• Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens, visitors, and City staff
• Maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Prior experience in public works, construction, landscaping, or facility maintenance preferred
• Valid driver’s license; Texas Class B Commercial Driver’s License required; Class A preferred
• Willingness to work a set full-time schedule and respond to occasional after-hours or emergency maintenance needs as required
