Environmental Technical Project Manager

Core Responsibilities

  • Serve as the field team lead for environmental investigations, sampling, monitoring, and remediation activities.
  • Develop detailed field execution strategies, including sampling plans, investigation methods, and remediation implementation approaches.
  • Lead all aspects of field activities including planning, scheduling, resource allocation, equipment procurement, and field logistics.
  • Provide on-site troubleshooting support for field teams during unexpected conditions, equipment issues, or changing site circumstances.
  • Ensure field work is executed in compliance with CERCLA, RCRA, FFA, ESA, NHPA, NEPA, permits, and all federal/state regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct or oversee installation of monitoring wells, drilling oversight, and remediation system performance monitoring.
  • Support in-situ/ex-situ remediation activities, including dig and haul, pump-and-treat operations, and natural attenuation monitoring.

Technical Oversight, Reporting & Data Management

  • Prepare, review, and approve technical reports, work plans, health & safety plans, sampling and analysis plans, and other regulatory deliverables.
  • Lead data evaluation including groundwater, soil, vapor, sediment, ecological, and PFAS analytical data.
  • Develop conceptual site models (CSMs), update project technical approaches, and recommend remedy optimization strategies.
  • Ensure accuracy, completeness, and regulatory acceptance of reports and deliverables.
  • Present project findings, status updates, and technical recommendations to clients, regulators, and internal leadership.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation and ensure compliance with internal quality standards.

Project Management & Subcontractor Coordination

  • Serve as the technical point of contact for clients, subcontractors, and field teams on day-to-day project execution.
  • Oversee subcontractor activities including drilling, surveying, geophysics, laboratory services, remediation system vendors, and specialty technical support.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation and ensure compliance with internal quality standards.
  • Support the development of project schedules, resource plans, cost estimates, and procurement requirements.
  • Support risk identification, mitigation planning, and issue resolution throughout project life cycles.

Team Leadership & Mentoring

  • Supervise environmental scientists, field technicians, and other project staff.
  • Provide field-based coaching and technical training to staff.
  • Ensure strong communication, safety awareness, and task clarity within field teams.
  • Foster a collaborative, safety-focused, and high-quality work environment.

Technical SME Support to Sales & Business Development

  • Serve as the technical subject matter expert for the sales team during proposal development.
  • Provide input on technical approaches, scopes, level of effort, and remediation strategies for new opportunities.
  • Aid in developing win themes, technical narratives, and solutions for proposals in CERCLA, RCRA, PFAS, MMRP, HTRW, and natural/cultural resource scopes.
  • Support client interviews, orals presentations, and technical Q&A as needed.
  • Share lessons learned from field execution to inform more competitive proposal strategies.

Requirements

  • Minimum Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Earth Science, Engineering, or related field. 10+ years of experience in federal environmental remediation environmental programs.
  • Experience serving the Army Corps of Engineers and the Department of Defense in a contracting capacity.
  • Demonstrated experience with CERCLA, RCRA, PFAS, HTRW, and MMRP field work.
  • Demonstrated experience with natural and cultural resource field experience.
  • Professional Geologist (PG), Certified Environmental Scientist (CES), Project Management Professional (PMP), or Professional Engineer (PE).

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • Strong understanding of field sampling techniques, environmental monitoring equipment, remediation technologies and site characterization methods.
  • Ability to lead field teams, coordinate subcontractors, and manage complex field logistics.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to interface directly with clients and partners.
  • Ability to travel and work in the field as needed.

Other Requirements

  • Ability to gain access to military installations.
  • 40 hour HAZWOPER.

Work Environment

  • This position is remote, with preference to be located in the Kansas City metro.
  • Ability to travel for field work including over night stays.
  • Ability to perform work outside in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to travel for occasional business development requirements.
  • Driving is required.

Physical Abilities

  • Ability to lift and carry equipment and samples weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to walk, hike and work in outdoor environments, including rugged or uneven terrain, for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions (e.g. rain, heat, cold).
  • Ability to work on feet for extended periods of time.
