Position Summary
Tetra Tech is looking for a full-time Environmental Project Manager based in Helena, MT. The selected candidate will lead and manage environmental consulting and due diligence projects from proposal through closeout, ensuring technical excellence, regulatory compliance, on-time delivery, and adherence to budget.
Essential Job Functions
- Serve as project manager for environmental assessment, investigation, remediation, compliance, and permitting projects; oversee all phases including planning, fieldwork, laboratory coordination, data analysis, reporting, and regulatory submittals.
- Develop scopes of work, prepare cost estimates and proposals, and manage project budgets, schedules, and invoicing.
- Act as primary client and stakeholder liaison; coordinate meetings, present technical results, and manage client expectations.
- Supervise and mentor project staff, subcontractors, and field crews.
- Assign tasks, review deliverables, and lead performance evaluations for project team members.
- Design and oversee field investigations such as soil, groundwater, vapor, and surface-water sampling; ensure health and safety plans are implemented and maintained.
- Interpret environmental data, perform fate-and-transport or risk screening calculations as needed, and prepare clear, defensible technical reports and deliverables.
- Ensure work products meet applicable federal, state, and local regulatory requirements and quality-assurance/quality-control (QA/QC) standards.
- Cookordinate with laboratories, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders to resolve technical issues and ensure timely project progression.
- Maintain project records, prepare progress reports, and ensure change orders and project documentation are complete and accurate.
- Support business development activities by identifying opportunities, cultivating client relationships, and contributing to technical sections of proposals.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in geology, environmental science, environmental engineering, chemistry, or closely related scientific or engineering discipline AND one of the following:
- Master of Science degree in geology, environmental science, environmental engineering, or related field;
- Minimum of four (4) years of environmental consulting experience (post-degree) with progressive responsibility in project execution and/or management.
- 4-8 years relevant experience.
- Familiarity with federal and state environmental statutes and regulations (e.g., CERCLA, RCRA, state cleanup programs).
- Experience with environmental data management software and modeling tools (e.g., GIS, GWSCREEN, Modflow, analytical chemistry data systems).
- Experience preparing and managing bids, proposals, and budgets for small projects.
- Proven project management skills, and the ability to mentor junior staff.
- Must be able to drive on a regular basis. Passing a motor vehicle record background check and maintaining a valid driver's license and good driving record is required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional registration (P.G., P.E., or equivalent) in applicable discipline or eligibility to obtain.
- Experience preparing and managing bids, proposals, and budgets for medium to large projects.
- Prior leadership/mentoring experience and demonstrated business development capability.
Physical Requirements
- Able to perform field duties that may include walking over uneven terrain.
- Lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50lbs.
- Prolonged periods of standing.
- Able to don and work in personal protective equipment (PPE) when conditions require it.
Work Environment
- The position is a combination of office-based and field work.
- Field assignments may involve exposure to environmental contaminants, variable weather, and remote locations.
- Occasional extended hours may be required to meet client or project deadlines.
- Travel to client sites and regulatory meetings as required.
Additional Information
- This full-time position requires roughly 3 - 0% travel.
- The typical work schedule is 8 hours per day in the office, Monday through Friday.
