Environmental Control Technician II- Wildlife Health

These positions are with Delaware’s Species Conservation and Research Program to assist the Wildlife Disease Biologists and Deer Project Leader with wildlife disease related research and management throughout Delaware. The Wildlife Health Biological Aides support wildlife biologists with surveillance and response activities involving a variety of wildlife species and health concerns, with a primary focus on Chronic Wasting Disease surveillance in deer.

Responsibilities

• Collect and process biological samples.
• Maintain sampling sites and equipment.
• Assist with population surveys and data collection.
• Support data management and database maintenance.
• Coordinate with agency staff, the public, hunters, processors, rehabilitators, and other partners to ensure accurate sample collection, tracking, and documentation.
• Provide outreach and training support.
• Assist with program reports.
• Follow established biosecurity and disease-prevention protocols.
• Perform field duties in variable weather conditions.
• Handle multiple wildlife species.
• Work evening or weekend shifts during peak surveillance periods.
• Provide technical support in studies, surveys, and research projects.
• Perform trapping and banding.
• Work cooperatively with other seasonals, volunteers, and Division of Fish & Wildlife staff.
• Provide technical information and assistance to the public.
• Maintain accurate records and prepare reports.
• Assist in data entry and maintain records detailing daily activities.
• Demonstrate responsibility, dependability, and good communication skills.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Six months experience in conducting field work to collect samples and survey data.
• Six months experience in math such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, or decimals.
• Six months experience in applying laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures.
• Six months experience in narrative report writing.
• Knowledge of using an automated information system to enter, update, modify, delete, retrieve/inquire, and report on data.
• Possession of a valid Driver's License (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).

This is a Casual/Seasonal position which is non-pension eligible and without healthcare and/or other benefits.
