About the role

This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities. This role is part of the Environmental Health and Safety team at the Florida Launch Complex on Cape Canaveral, FL.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and assess processes that guide Blue Origin’s design, manufacturing, and launch operations, ensuring system safety engineering, environmental health and safety, operations, and continuous improvement processes.
  • Aid in the implementation of all Environmental, Health and Safety programs at the Florida Launch Complex.
  • Technical safety program areas include, but are not limited to rocket propellants, cryogenic systems, pressurized systems, launch operations, chemical safety, and fire protection.
  • Monitor environmental compliance and assist with regulatory reporting; oversee hazardous materials management and waste handling; conduct regular safety inspections of launch operations and facilities.
  • Indoctrinate employees and contractors on our Safety Program and deliver training; assist in incident investigations and implement corrective actions; support the development of job hazard analyses.
  • Ensure environmental compliance with local, state and federal regulations at the Orbital Launch Site including, but not limited to: NEPA, RCRA, SWPPP, SPCC, and NPDES.
  • Manage hazardous waste activities for the Orbital Launch Site.
  • Consult and advise project managers and senior managers on environmental compliance and best management practices.
  • Support incident investigations to identify root causes and corrective actions.
  • Deliver EHS training.
  • Evaluate operations for continuous process improvement and implementation of preventive action measures.
  • Recognize hazards, evaluate exposures, and offer control methods to protect employees from risks.
  • Oversee hazardous operations including cryogenics, ordnance, critical crane lifts, etc.
  • Conduct routine facility inspections (i.e., emergency egress, electrical, machine guarding, chemical, working walking surfaces, etc.) to ensure a safe and healthy working environment.
  • Conduct Personal Protective Equipment assessments and promote awareness when an item or piece of equipment has been recalled or is defective.
  • Support development of job hazard analyses.
  • Perform periodic audits of our EHS Programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of proven industry specific EHS experience.
  • Knowledge of all applicable safety and environmental regulations.
  • Knowledge of near miss reporting practices and processes.
  • Indoctrinate new employees on our EHS Program.
  • Candidate must be able to lift/carry up to fifty pounds.
  • Must be able to physically climb multiple flights stairs, withstand prolonged standing, and work in adverse weather conditions.
  • Must be able to wear fall protection and work from heights.
  • Must be willing to work in confined spaces and during hazardous operations.
  • Willing to support long hours, shift work, and weekends as needed.
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
  • Must be able to pass a background check in order to obtain a Defense Biometric Identification Card.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to obtain site access credentials.

Desired

  • 5+ years’ work experience in operational aerospace environment, manufacturing, or chemical industry.
  • Knowledge of Florida State safety and environmental regulations.
  • Experience with launch pad operations and associated safety protocols.
  • Knowledge of chemical and cryogenic safety procedures.
  • HAZMAT and/or emergency response team experience.
  • OSHA 30-hour certification.
  • First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Familiarity with AFSPCMAN 91-710 and other DoD regulations.

Schedule

The role is available on a B-Shift schedule (6:00 PM to 6:00 AM, four days on/three days off). Schedule flexibility during launch operations is essential.
