About the role

Cox Fleet offers a paid educational program called FleeTec Academy, leading to a full-time position as a Diesel & Trailer Technician. The program includes:

  • 5 weeks of paid classroom training in Indianapolis, IN, with all travel expenses (hotel, meals, stipend) covered and a weekly paycheck.
  • 8 to 10 weeks of mentorship in your home market under a Lead Technician, followed by another 5 weeks of paid classroom training in Indianapolis.
  • Free technical education, hands-on training, and a full-time job as a Mobile Diesel Mechanic upon completion.
  • A set of hand tools with a toolbox provided at no cost.

As a Mobile Technician, you’ll perform preventative maintenance and general repairs at customer locations using a state-of-the-art vehicle. This role avoids emergency roadside repairs and focuses on keeping customer fleets operational onsite.

Responsibilities

  • Complete 5 weeks of full-time, intensive classroom training at FleeTec Academy.
  • Undergo 8–10 weeks of hands-on mentorship with a Lead Technician in your market.
  • Return for an additional 5 weeks of advanced classroom training.
  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and repairs on light, medium, and heavy-duty trucks and trailers at customer locations.
  • Maintain focus and professionalism throughout the training and employment period.

Requirements

  • Desire to start a career as a Diesel & Trailer Technician.
  • Willingness and ability to study hard and dedicate 10 weeks away from home for training.
  • Technical aptitude and passion for fixing vehicles.
  • Ability to operate an iPad.
  • High-school diploma or equivalent preferred but not required.
  • Must be at least 21 years old due to DOT interstate commerce regulations.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to maintain a Driver Qualification File.
  • Must pass DOT-regulated pre-employment background screening, drug test, and physical (or provide a current DOT medical card with more than 4 months validity).
  • Authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.

Pay

  • Classroom training: $13.72/hour (or state minimum wage, whichever is greater) + $250/week stipend (taxed).
  • Mentorship phase: $19/hour.
  • Second classroom phase: $19/hour + $250/week stipend (taxed).
  • Post-graduation: $21/hour.
  • Hourly pay range: $13.70–$20.53, with potential for additional compensation (e.g., commission or incentives).
