About the role
We’re seeking a detail-oriented Manufacturing Engineering Intern to help standardize and improve our shop-floor documentation and risk management processes. You will collaborate with engineers, quality, production, and Health and Safety Engineer (HSE) to update Work/Machine Instructions, revise Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and support Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA) development to improve process capability, safety, and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Audit current work/machine instructions against actual practices; identify gaps and legacy content.
- Update/author operator-friendly instructions with clear steps, photos, callouts, and critical-to-quality (CTQ) checkpoints.
- Validate instructions on the floor with operators and supervisors; incorporate feedback and obtain approvals via document control.
- Review SOPs for accuracy, regulatory alignment, and cross-function consistency (Quality, HSE, Maintenance).
- Standardize formatting, revision control, and metadata (titles, doc numbers, effective dates, approvers).
- Cook up redline reviews and route for approval per change management procedures.
- Participate in or facilitate FMEA sessions for priority processes/equipment.
- Document potential failure modes, causes/effects, current controls; calculate RPN and help define recommended actions.
- Track mitigation actions to closure and update FMEA/RPNs post-implementation.
- Support Conduct time studies or simple capability checks (e.g., Cp/Cpk where applicable) to confirm instruction effectiveness.
- Afford assistance with operator training rollouts and attendance records for revised documents.
- Ensure documents are correctly published in the Document Management System (DMS) and linked to the correct work centers.
Required Qualifications
- Working toward a bachelor’s in engineering, or related field.
- Strong attention to detail; able to translate technical content into clear, visual shop-floor instructions.
- Comfortable on the production floor, engaging with operators/technicians to validate steps.
- Proficient with Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); basic data analysis in Excel.
Preferred Skills
- Exposure to FMEA methods (AIAG/VDA familiarity a plus).
- Experience with Lean concepts (5S, Standard Work, visual management).
- Basic statistics (e.g., normality, variation, control charts) and measurement fundamentals.
- Familiarity with CAD/PDM screenshots for illustrations or with image markup tools (SnagIt, Visio).
- Experience with an electronic Document Management System (DMS) or PLM/QMS.
