Engineering Intern
About the role
Support the Engineering and Sales teams by enhancing technical sales data through the creation of sizing and application guides, simulation tools, and visual materials. The intern will contribute to the development of internal tools and sales literature by generating charts, drawings, and application resources. This role offers hands-on experience in technical communication, CAD modeling, and potentially programming, while collaborating with cross-functional teams including Sales, Engineering, and Marketing.
Responsibilities
- Design and build a mechanical demonstration structure for valve performance comparison.
- Develop and specify a flow loop for internal valve testing.
- Create CAD models and engineering drawings for prototype components.
- Select appropriate materials and components for mechanical builds.
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure manufacturability and safety of designs.
- Assemble and test prototypes; document performance results.
- Support trade show and customer engagement efforts through technical demonstration.
- Participate in design reviews and provide engineering documentation.
- Absorb root cause analysis and validation testing as needed.
- Create sizing and application guides for valve products.
- Generate or outsource application tools to simulate valve performance.
- Create charts and drawings for internal tools and sales literature.
- Support the Engineering and Sales teams with technical documentation.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure accuracy and usability of materials.
- Utilize SolidWorks to create CAD models and visual assets.
- Absorb programming or tool development for simulation and analysis.
- Lead collection of physical data including product weight.
- Collaborate with external designers to support creation of sales literature.
- Present project findings and deliverables to leadership.
Qualifications
- Current college student, with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above, who is enrolled and in good standing at a Maryland higher education institution.
- Sophomore standing by start of internship at minimum, majoring or minoring in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Industrial Design, or a related discipline.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects to meet deadlines.
- Solidworks experience preferred.
Education & Experience
- High School diploma or equivalent.
Physical Demands
- Moves around and is still; uses hands to handle objects, tools or controls; reaches with and arms; talks and hears.
- Lifts up to 35 lbs.
- Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
- Office and shop floor working environment.
- Noise level is minimal with intervals of spikes.
Total Rewards
The compensation range for this position is $32,500.00 - $48,700.00, depending on experience. This position may be eligible for performance based bonus plan.
