About the role
The EMS and Fire Service Instructional Coordinator is responsible for coordinating training, testing and certification activities supporting the state-authorized Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Paramedic, and Fire Service programs offered at the Public Safety & Transportation Complex (PSTC) on the Beloit-Janesville Campus and at outreach locations in Rock and Green Counties.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate and instruct in EMS, Paramedic and Fire programs.
- Monitor and evaluate programs to ensure the efficient operations and delivery of all EMS Training Center and Fire Service training to meet quality and compliance requirements as a WTCS/DHS training partner.
- Develop new courses and assist in curriculum development in cooperation with program faculty.
- Cook up and schedule Fire and EMS certification exams.
- Ensure compliance with regulations and accreditation standards to operate as a Wisconsin-approved EMS Training Center.
- Develop and coordinate program advisory committees.
- Develop and maintain relationships with local fire and EMS departments, schools and business/industry.
- Develop and administer contract training in collaboration with the Workforce and Community Development Division.
- Participate in marketing and recruitment activities as appropriate to maximize student enrollment in EMS, Paramedic and Fire Service courses.
- Maintain program records in compliance with school and state regulations.
- Oversee care and maintenance of EMS and Fire Service equipment.
- Facilitate program/course articulation with secondary institutions.
- Identify and resolve problems related to staffing, registration, records maintenance or other related matters as they arise.
- Collaborate with other departments to collect and maintain data to assist in identifying and securing external funds to help fund program delivery.
- Promote flexible programming through the use of alternative delivery systems.
- Serve as supervisor for EMS and Fire Service program instructors.
- Supervise full-time EMS, Paramedic and Fire program instructors in accordance with College policies and applicable laws.
- Supervise all part-time instructional and support staff for credit and non-credit courses, including recruitment, hiring, scheduling, approval of time and leave reporting, staff training and development, assigning and directing work, performance management, addressing complaints and resolving problems.
- Develop and administer program budgets.
- Identify needs, prepare budget proposals and obtain approval.
- Manage and coordinate purchasing of program materials, supplies, and capital equipment.
- Monitor expenditures and ensure compliance to approved budgets.
- Reconcile and balance accounts.
- Aid in program-related student issues.
- Oversee related student activities.
- Advises and assists students with concerns and problem resolution.
- Facilitate scheduling, registration and ensure recognition of advance standing credit or other forms of credit for prior learning for individual students.
- Work with other departments/divisions/institutions to ensure a cooperative effort in the achievement of College goals.
- Develop and implement program goals and objectives.
- Handle and resolve problems and issues as appropriate.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in EMS, Fire Service or a related field.
- Master’s Degree preferred.
- Two (2) years (4,000 hours) of Fire, EMS, or Paramedic work experience.
- Two years of teaching experience.
- State of Wisconsin Fire and Emergency Services Instructor I and Instructor II Certification, or ability to obtain certification within six months of hire.
- DHS EMS Instructor Orientation, complete within 6 months of hire.
- American Heart Association BLS/ACLS/PALS Instructor Certification.
