About the role

Cooley LLP seeks an Employment & Labor Attorney with 2-5 years of experience to join their team in San Diego, Los Angeles, or Santa Monica offices. The ideal candidate will have experience in case development, legal research and writing, discovery, witness interviews or investigations, and brief writing. They should also possess strong employment counseling skills, including advising on employment policies and practices, statutory and regulatory compliance, and employment and separation agreements.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage cases
  • Conduct legal research and writing
  • Manage discovery processes
  • Interview witnesses or conduct investigations
  • Write legal briefs
  • Provide employment counseling advice
  • Advising clients on employment policies and practices
  • Ensure compliance with statutes and regulations
  • Prepare and review employment and separation agreements

Requirements

Candidates must be currently admitted to the California bar. Experience as a law clerk or with less than one full year of experience is not accepted. Applicants should demonstrate strong academic credentials, excellent communication and legal writing skills, high levels of motivation and initiative, and a strong work ethic.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in employment law, including experience in case development, legal research and writing, discovery, witness interviews or investigations, and brief writing. They should also have a solid understanding of employment counseling, including advising on employment policies and practices, statutory and regulatory compliance, and employment and separation agreements.

Skills

Exceptional communication and legal writing skills, strong academic credentials, high level of motivation and initiative, willingness to mentor junior associates, and a strong work ethic are essential qualifications for this position.

Pay

The expected annual pay range for this position is $235,000 - $365,000, with final offer amounts dependent on geographic location, experience, and skillset of the candidate.
