Emergency Financial Representative, PT Evenings

About the role

The Emergency Financial Representative ensures reimbursement to PIH Health from patients or other responsible parties, assists patients in understanding their health care insurance coverage, and financially secures patients' accounts.

Responsibilities

• Up-front POS collections
• Financially securing patients' accounts by setting up appropriate financial arrangements
• Assisting patients in accessing programs like Medi-Cal, Uncompensated Care, and Hospital Presumptive Eligibility
• Financial counseling during individual performance in registration
• Enhancing registration and financial knowledge and skills
• Completing comprehensive training program and certification for Hospital Presumptive Eligibility qualifications when necessary

Requirements

• Clear understanding of PIH Health mission and values
• Ability to work directly with insurance companies, healthcare providers, and patients
• Experience in front office/medical billing, hospital registration/admitting, insurance verification, and medical/hospital billing
• Attention to detail and follow-up process
• Effective and tactful communication with patients, healthcare providers, and insurance companies
• Mathematical skills to calculate copay or percentage of financial estimate amount due and/or establish payment arrangements accurately
• Independent judgment and decision-making in emergency situations
• Strong organizational and computer skills, including typing 45+ wpm and proficiency in MS office programs
• Bilingual preference
• Interacts with all levels of hospital and outside vendor staff
• Knowledge of eligibility requirements for Medi-Cal, Hospital Presumptive Eligibility Program, Medicare, Covered California, Cobra, limited benefit plans, VVC, and Uncompensated Care Programs
• EPIC EHR experience preferred
• Knowledge of medical terminology preferred
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills

Qualifications

• Two years of experience in front office/medical billing and/or hospital registration/admitting
• Two years of experience in insurance verification and/or medical/hospital billing
• High school diploma or equivalent, with evidence of continuing education in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration

Skills

• Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NCI) Certification within 3 months of hire date
• Graceful, empathetic, and respectful customer service

PIH Health offers competitive compensation and benefits, including a salary range of $23.00 - $34.96 per hour.
