Emergency Financial Representative, PT Evenings

About the role

The Emergency Financial Representative ensures reimbursement to PIH Health from patients or other responsible parties, assists patients in understanding their health care insurance coverage, and financially secures patients' accounts.

Responsibilities

• Up-front POS collections
• Financially securing patients' accounts by setting up appropriate financial arrangements
• Assisting patients in accessing programs like Medi-Cal, Uncompensated Care, and Hospital Presumptive Eligibility
• Facilitating eligibility for Hospital Presumptive Eligibility qualifications when necessary
• Completing comprehensive training program and certification as required
• Maintaining customer service standards, including non-violent crisis intervention (NCI) certification within 3 months of hire

Requirements

• High school graduate or equivalent, with preference for continuing education in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration
• At least two years of experience in front office/medical billing, hospital registration/admitting, or medical/hospital billing
• Experience with EPIC EHR system preferred

Qualifications

• Clear understanding of PIH Health's mission and values
• Ability to work directly with insurance companies, healthcare providers, and patients
• Knowledge of EMTALA and experience with insurance verification and medical/hospital billing
• Attention to detail and follow-up process
• Effective communication and tactfulness with patients, healthcare providers, and insurance companies
• Excellent mathematical skills for calculating copays and financial estimates
• Strong organizational and independent judgment skills
• Bilingual proficiency preferred
• Ability to interact with all levels of hospital staff and knowledge of government regulations
• Strong computer skills, including typing 45+ wpm and proficiency in MS Office programs
• Strict adherence to privacy policies and procedures, including HIPAA compliance
