Electronic Mechanic (MVO).

About the Role

Serves as an Electronic Mechanic responsible for monitoring, maintaining, setting, resetting, and repairing controls for a variety of Fire Alarms and Fire Suppression Systems. Installs, maintains, and repairs electric wiring systems, related switches, distribution panels, outlet boxes, and a wide variety of electrical fixtures, tools, and appliances.

Responsibilities

• Perform the most difficult and complex Electronic Mechanic tasks, including assembly, modification, test, and system integration of Fire Alarms and Fire Suppression Systems.
• Provide recommendations for modification, test, and repair procedures.
• Offer technical direction on the full range of test equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair duties.
• Recognize deficiencies in test equipment and program systems under test.
• Work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion.

Requirements

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• Emergency on-call may be required, including 24/7 call-back availability.
• Able to obtain and maintain a U.S. issued driver’s license.
• Pre-employment physical is required.
• Must be able to lift up to 45 lbs.
• Required to operate a 1/2 to 2 1/2 ton truck.
• This is an inclement weather essential position.
• U.S. citizenship is required.

Qualifications

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to perform the work of an Electronic Mechanic (MVO) without more than normal supervision. Must demonstrate the ability to handle complex tasks, provide technical direction, and troubleshoot effectively.

Physical Effort

• Handles and carries tools, equipment, and testing devices that seldom weigh over 50 pounds.
• Work is normally performed at sites where most equipment can be reached from the floor or ladders.
• May occasionally use platforms, scaffolding, hoists, holders, and pulleys.
• Requires frequent standing, walking, climbing, and occasional stooping, bending, kneeling, and work in tiring or uncomfortable positions.

Working Conditions

• Most work is performed indoors, but occasionally requires work outside on tall buildings or in cramped areas with low overheads.
• Exposure to gas, smoke, ash, scalding water, carbon monoxide, oil, sulfur fumes, and toxic refrigerants.
• Safety gear such as goggles, respirators, heavy aprons, hard hats, protective gloves, facemasks, and protective clothing are provided to mitigate hazards.
