Electronics Mechanic.

Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. This position requires the completion of a pre-employment physical examination and an annual examination thereafter. TDY or business travel is approximately 5% of the time. A one-year probationary period is required unless previously met under 5 CFR Part 11.

Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, and modify surveillance video equipment.
  • Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair avionic communications systems, including voice switching systems, digital voice recorders, and GPS antennas.
  • Test, maintain, and repair microprocessor and computer-controlled communications consoles and radio equipment.
  • Install, maintain, and repair electronic fire alarm equipment.
  • Set up and operate public address systems.

Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to perform the work without more than normal supervision, including independently installing, modifying, overhauling, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electronics equipment of moderate complexity.
  • Work requires light to moderate physical effort, including lifting items up to 40 pounds (assistance is available for heavier items). Positions may require standing, walking, bending, crouching, reaching, stooping, and occasional high work.
  • Work is primarily indoors but may occasionally involve outdoor work in poor weather conditions.
  • Exposure to hazards such as electric shock, cuts, bruises, and burns from electrical equipment or soldering irons.

Qualifications

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps). There is no specific length of training or experience required, but you must demonstrate sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties without more than normal supervision. Education may not substitute for experience in this role.
