Electronics Mechanic (Motor Vehicle Operator).

Responsibilities

• Performs complex Range Maintenance operations including electrical, mechanical, soldering, and equipment operations.
• Designs and fabricates unique training targets and devices.
• Works on equipment such as very high frequency transmitters and receivers, target interface units, and small arms noise-flash simulators.
• Evaluates fault reports to determine if an item should be returned to the repair section or if repair/adjustment can be made to continue testing.
• Resets all items after repairs to ensure they pass diagnostic tests without error.
• Performs common duties in maintaining electronics equipment of moderate complexity through troubleshooting, overhaul, and modifications.
• Analyzes schematic layouts of circuits and conducts preliminary visual inspections and operational tests to identify malfunctioning components.
• Makes repairs by replacing damaged, missing, burnt, or faulty items such as printed circuit cards, transistors, diodes, and resistors using micro-soldering techniques.

Requirements

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, including a completed background investigation.
• Must possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver’s License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
• May require operation of a motor vehicle.
• Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
• Requires shift work, rotating shifts, weekend/holiday work, and overtime.
• Must complete a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter.
• Mandatory drug testing as a condition of employment (DA Form 5019R).
• Frequently lifts items weighing 70 lbs. and occasionally lifts items weighing 100 lbs. or more with assistance.
• Must work in an outdoor environment with potential exposure to extreme weather.

Qualifications

Open to US Citizens. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social).

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to perform the work of an Electronics Mechanic (Motor Vehicle Operator) without more than normal supervision. Failure to meet this element will result in an ineligible rating.

Physical Effort & Working Conditions

• Physical Effort: Frequently lifts items weighing up to 70 lbs. and occasionally up to 100 lbs. with assistance. Requires frequent bending, reaching, stretching, climbing, and crawling for extended periods. Works in tiring and uncomfortable positions.
• Working Conditions: Performs work indoors and outdoors in cold, hot, and inclement weather. Exposed to abrasions, cuts, burns, toxic stings/bites from insects and snakes, and falls from 30-foot towers. May be exposed to electrical shock, live fire ranges, pyrotechnics, laser frequencies, explosives, and sulfuric acid when handling batteries. Safety equipment (e.g., hearing protection, hard hats with face shields) is provided.

• Position may be filled as a Term Appointment not to exceed 2 years, with potential extensions up to 8 years with DoD approval.
• Current permanent Federal employees may be appointed/converted into a Term Appointment with no statutory return rights to a permanent position.
• Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
• Requires proof of U.S. Citizenship and a 2-year trial period for agency evaluation of fitness and public interest.
• Direct Deposit of Pay is required.
• Salary includes applicable locality pay or Local Market Supplement.
• Permanent Change of Station (PCS) allowances may be authorized, subject to Joint Travel Regulations and agency determination.
• Recruitment and relocation incentives, student loan repayment, salary negotiations for new Federal employees, and credit for prior non-Federal/military service for leave accrual rates may be authorized.
