About the role

Positions at this supervisory level are responsible for overseeing one of several election processes, including the receipt, inspection, storage, and recording of voted ballot cards; monitoring check-in center operations; or resolving vote center operational problems. Incumbents must possess knowledge of departmental policies, procedures, and election processes.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise subordinate supervisors in the receipt, inspection, storage, and recording of voted ballot cards at a tally center.
  • Assign Election Assistant II's to resolve vote center operational problems.
  • Receive, evaluate, and resolve vote center operational problems.
  • Direct 30-40 Election Assistant II's in processing voted ballot cards, ensuring proper procedures are followed.
  • Resolve difficult problems referred by Election Assistant II's.
  • Prepare records, reports, and correspondence concerning department activities.
  • Plan and direct voter outreach activities.
  • Train subordinate staff on voter outreach activities.
  • Provide training to vote center workers.
  • Operate election votes collection centers.

Requirements

Selection Requirement:

  • Option I: One (1) year of full-time staff experience in an advisory capacity to line managers, providing program and administrative support (e.g., research, analysis, recommendations on personnel utilization, fund allocation, workload, or program procedures).
  • Option II: One (1) year of full-time prior election experience.

Full-time experience is evaluated on a 40-hour workweek basis. Part-time work will be prorated month-for-month.

License: A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation for job-related essential functions.

Physical Requirements: Light Work – occasional light lifting up to 10 pounds, some bending, stooping, or squatting, and considerable ambulation.

Additional Information

This is a noncompetitive assessment process. Qualification will be based on information provided in the Supplemental Questionnaire related to the Selection Requirements. Applicants will be processed on an as-received basis and placed on the eligible register for twelve (12) months.

The positions are for temporary employment only. Appointees may be required to work any shift, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
