About the role

This is a 3-year entry-level rotational development program (Edison Engineering Development Program – EEDP) based in Louisville, KY, designed to develop participants into well-rounded software engineers. Completion of a GE Appliances-sponsored Master’s degree is required for those who do not already have one, along with GE Appliances-specific and relevant technical coursework.

EEDPs rotate teams 4 to 6 times, with each rotation lasting approximately 6 months (one rotation may last 1 year). Participants engage in daily software team activities, including scoping work, identifying requirements, designing, implementing fully unit-tested code, bench testing, and supporting Software Quality Assurance. EEDPs also serve as mentors to software co-ops.

Development environment

  • Develop production code in C and scripting languages like Lua and JavaScript (for tooling).
  • Work in resource-constrained environments, typically with no heap, running primarily bare metal (some projects use an RTOS).
  • Use Git for version control.
  • Follow Agile methodologies and Test Driven Development (TDD).
  • Leverage continuous integration to automate builds and quickly identify issues.
  • Focus on connected appliances, enabling IoT functionality and creating highly debuggable platforms.

Full-time developers have opportunities to attend software conferences as part of continuous learning.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or better in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related Engineering field.
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher (out of 4.0).
  • Unrestricted authorization to work in the United States.
  • Position is located in Louisville, KY.
