Responsibilities
- Ensures echocardiography laboratories comply with all regulations and procedures.
- Aids in obtaining and maintaining IAC accreditation by managing documentation.
- Assists in standardizing and updating procedures, quality control, and staff training.
- Assesses and develops educational programs for cardiac sonographer staff.
- Oversees the Residency Program and provides clinical supervision.
- Performs inpatient and outpatient cardiac ultrasound tests, including 2D echo / Doppler, stress exams, and transesophageal echocardiograms.
- Provides complex technical care using ultrasound technology for various age groups.
- Routinely reviews cardiac sonographer exams as part of a quality assurance program.
- Assists with monitoring and reporting on quality metrics related to IAC standards.
- Maintains competency and registry records for sonographers and interns.
- Attends and participates in echocardiography leadership activities.
- Maintains relationships with technical colleges and oversees student interns.
- Supports patient evaluations, verifies patient identity, and addresses concerns.
- Performs echocardiograms according to protocol and maintains documentation.
- Keeps up-to-date with echocardiography trends and best practices.
- Maintains personal competency file if applicable.
Qualifications
- Minimum Education: Graduate of registry-approved ultrasound college (CAAHEP).
- Minimum Experience: Seven (7) years clinical experience as a registered cardiac sonographer.
- Minimum Licensure/Certification: Registered as a Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) through ARDMS or as a Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) through CCI.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience with IAC accreditation, developing educational material, data collection, analysis, and presentation, and a bachelor's degree in Cardiac Sonography or a healthcare-related field.
