About the role

The Advanced Cardiac Sonographer position at Houston Methodist Hospital is a Full-Time, non-exempt role located at 6565 Fannin St., Houston TX, 77030. The position requires a combination of advanced medical training and extensive experience in cardiac echo sonography.

Responsibilities

  • Perform echocardiograms in a timely and accurate manner, following departmental and research policies and procedures.
  • Quantitate echocardiographic images, prepare preliminary physician interpreting reports, and ensure these are reviewed and approved by the attending cardiologist.
  • Provide care for the physical and emotional needs of patients during echocardiogram studies.
  • Assist physicians and other healthcare team members during echocardiogram studies.
  • Identify and communicate abnormal findings to the attending reading cardiologist.
  • Ensure the quality and accuracy of echocardiographic studies, adhering to best imaging practices and research protocols.
  • Participate in departmental and research projects, contributing to the expansion of learning competencies and constant development as an Advanced Cardiac Sonographer.

Qualifications

  • Education: Graduate of an approved education program for the required credentials, such as RDCS-AE, RDCS, RSC, RCCS, RVS, or RVT, and ACS - Advanced Cardiac Sonographer (CCI) - Cardiovascular Credentialing International_PSV.
  • Experience: Seven years of experience as a cardiac echo sonographer, with three years in a hospital-based practice. Experience as a physician not actively licensed to practice in the US but in good standing is also acceptable.
  • Licenses and Certifications: Certification as RDCS-AE, RDCS, RSC, RCCS, RVS or RVT, ACS - Advanced Cardiac Sonographer (CCI) - Cardiovascular Credentialing International_PSV, and BLS - Basic Life Support or Instructor (AHA) - American Heart Association.

Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrates skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job, determined through ongoing assessments.
  • Works independently, handles challenging situations, and executes clinical skills above average.
  • Has knowledge of multiple Ultrasound systems and can learn and master the DigiView reporting system.
  • Exhibits strong interpersonal and team-player skills, with the ability to motivate fellow employees and promote cooperation between clinical/research areas.
  • Able to communicate effectively with patients, physicians, family members, and co-workers, maintaining a customer service focus.
