About the role
This position will serve as the East Meadow Farm (EMF) Facilities Coordinator for Cornell Cooperative Extension Association of Nassau County. The Facilities Coordinator is responsible for cleaning and maintaining the Association’s grounds and physical facilities to ensure the safety of staff, volunteers, participants, and the public. The role includes assisting at the Dorothy P. Flint (DPF) 4-H Camp and CCE-NC Headquarters in Eisenhower Park as needed.
Responsibilities
- Perform general maintenance and custodial duties, including but not limited to:
- Basic repairs and carpentry
- Grounds tending, farm production, and animal care
- Painting, cleaning, sealing, kitchen and bathroom maintenance
- Emptying garbage, lawn mowing, weed whipping
- Assist in preparing seasonal work plans and developing building and equipment maintenance schedules.
- Assist with creation and management of emergency preparedness plans.
- Maintain written plans and records for facility, equipment, and grounds, including maintenance logs, fire extinguisher and heating system checks, and winterization of buildings and equipment.
- Facilitate routine ordering of cleaning supplies, building materials, and maintenance items.
- Collaborate with the Association Program Leader to maintain an inventory of supplies and equipment.
- Comply with health and safety regulations, including OSHA/PESHA guidelines.
- Safely operate vehicles and job-related equipment, including tractors and related machinery.
- Record use and storage of chemicals and cleaners as required.
- Maintain equipment operating manuals and maintenance records.
- Interact courteously and respectfully with clientele, staff, volunteers, and the public.
- Set up and break down equipment for programs and events, including chairs, tables, and bleachers.
- Clean and maintain appliances and equipment such as refrigerators, stoves, hot water heaters, lawn mowers, tractors, and floor scrubbers.
- Perform general maintenance and repairs, including minor plumbing, electrical, carpentry, roofing, flooring, and painting.
- Alert supervisor of major problems or repairs needed.
- Remove snow and ice from walks, roofs, driveways, and parking lots as needed.
- Maintain lawn and landscaping.
- Prepare buildings and grounds for educational programming, including events like the Annual Farmers Market and Family Fun Fair.
- Take out garbage and recycling weekly.
- Assist with deliveries and errands.
- Collaborate in activities supporting Cornell Cooperative Extension, including staff meetings, expense reporting, and marketing of programs.
- Participate in required orientation, training, and in-service meetings.
- Support the Association in maintaining a safe working environment and follow all applicable safety regulations.
Requirements
- Associate's Degree or equivalent education (GED/High School Diploma and one year of transferrable program/functional experience).
- Experience relevant to the role of the position.
- Valid NYS Driver’s License and ability to meet travel requirements.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and/or weekends as needed.
- Ability to operate a tractor and related equipment.
- Physical ability to perform heavy lifting, shovel snow, and carry supplies and equipment.
- Ability to climb and perform work from a ladder.
- Knowledge of cleaning, maintenance, and repair methods, materials, and techniques applicable to public buildings.
- Demonstrated ability to provide cleaning, maintenance, and repair work.
- Ability to identify and address safety concerns in the workplace.
- Reliability and competence with building mechanicals and plumbing operations.
- Ability to work cooperatively with commercial maintenance and repair services.
- Ability and willingness to work with diverse audiences and maintain cultural sensitivity.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions and assume responsibility within general guidelines.
- Ability to plan and organize work responsibilities according to priorities.
- Ability to work effectively with the public and co-workers.
- Ability to communicate with supervisor and staff regarding job duties.
Pay
The hourly rate for this position is $20.47 to $22.00.
Schedule
This is a part-time, non-exempt position, 10 hours per week, 25% FTE.
