Job Summary

The classroom teacher under the direction of the school principal is responsible for creating a positive learning environment where students develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and lifelong learning skills. Teachers maintain a safe environment, establish rapport with students, parents, and colleagues, and motivate students to achieve academic success.

Essential Functions

  • Teach core content areas aligned with the USBE's Core Curriculum and other approved learning activities.
  • Develop lesson plans and instructional materials, providing individualized and small group instruction to meet student needs.
  • Use effective teaching techniques to facilitate productive student learning experiences.
  • Utilize computers and other technological classroom support equipment in student instruction.
  • Supervise students during indoor and outdoor activities, including recess duty and gymnasium activities, regardless of weather conditions.
  • Evaluate students' academic and social growth, maintain appropriate records, and prepare progress reports.
  • Implement Proficiency-Based Learning in evaluating students.
  • Communicate with parents through various means, such as conferences, phone calls, emails, and school website updates.
  • Work collaboratively with other professionals to support student growth.
  • Maintain a safe and supportive learning environment.
  • Create an effective learning environment through displays, bulletin boards, and interest centers.
  • Model professional and ethical standards when interacting with students, parents, colleagues, and the community.
  • Understand and adhere to laws, district policies, and procedures.
  • Participate in faculty meetings and committees.
  • Administer appropriate student attendance policies and procedures.
  • Participate in educator evaluation procedures as per district guidelines.
  • Administer group standardized tests in accordance with state and district testing procedures.
  • Select and requisition books and instructional materials, maintaining required inventory records.
  • Model professional ethics as outlined by the Utah Professional Practices Advisory Commission.
  • Be a positive role model.

Required Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong computer and educational technological skills.
  • Ability to work independently with little direct supervision.
  • Ability to establish and maintain a positive learning environment and handle classroom management issues calmly.
  • Effective multi-tasking and time management skills.

Required Training and Education

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • A valid Professional Educator License for the State of Utah within the relevant "Licensure Area of Concentration" and if applicable, "Endorsement."
  • A cleared criminal background check from the USBE.

Physical Demands

  • Requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, and crouch.
  • Uses hands to finger, handle, or feel objects.
  • Uses hands to talk or hear.
  • Moves and lifts supplies, equipment, etc. up to 25 pounds and occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 50 pounds.
  • Lifts up to 10 pounds frequently and up to 25 pounds occasionally.
  • Lifts up to 50 pounds occasionally for P.E., CTE, Theatre, and/or Art teachers.
