Essential Functions
- Maintains an understanding of LOPA’s clinical triggers and referral criteria.
- Is able to educate hospital staff on the importance of a timely referral.
- Responds to referrals, as defined in LOPA policy and procedure.
- Accesses hospital electronic medical records to review pertinent medical history and clinical course to establish and validate patient suitability for organ donation.
- Effectively communicates with the appropriate hospital staff, in an acute care setting, regarding the current status of a potential donor, their family’s understanding of prognosis, and the current plan of care.
- Identifies early family support triggers, when GOC or BD exams are planned and notifies appropriate LOPA staff in a timely manner.
- Aids in donor family support throughout flag raising, honor walks, and/or DCD OR with family present.
- Supports onsite rounding and remote organ referral rounding/follow up when regional ORC is managing an active donor case.
- Utilizes discretion and sensitivity with respect to the circumstances, views and beliefs of others in all interactions, including but not limited to donor families.

- Attends required department meetings, educational opportunities and other relevant meetings.
- Completes all Q-Pulse and Absorb assignments as required.
- Maintains usability of all designated EMR access regardless of usage needs.
- Participates in hospital staff and community education.
- Participates in at least one community event per year.

Work Environment
- Possibly exposed to communicable diseases, hazardous materials, pharmacological agents with the likelihood of harm if established health precautions are followed.

- May have exposure to packaged organs and tissues for transplant and/or research.
- Requires remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
- Communicating with others verbally and electronically to exchange information.
- Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
- Using fine motor skills.
- Doing work that requires visual acuity.
- Need for ability to hear.
- Operating motor vehicles or heavy equipment.
- Assessing the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of the work assigned.
- Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing.
- Light work that includes moving or lifting objects up to 20 pounds.
Work Hours
- Full time, 12 hour shifts 11am-11pm.
- Weekend hours - Friday, Saturday, and Sunday with Holiday coverage based on regional needs.
- Employees in the weekend program may work other shifts during the week as well as Holidays not on the defined weekend hours.
- Eligibility for weekends off increases with years of service:
- Less than 5 years: 3 weekends off per calendar year.
- 5 – 9 years: 4 weekends off per calendar year.
- 10 – 14 years: 5 weekends off per calendar year.
- 15 or more years: 6 weekends off per calendar year.
Requirements
- Requires strong organizational skills, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and the flexibility to work odd hours.
- EMT-P certification or Diploma, associate or bachelor’s degree in nursing or a BS in a medically related field.
- One to two years related experience and/ or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Ability to communicate lab values and diagnostic procedures.
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to concentrate for long periods of time.
- Ability to deliver effective and professional verbal and written communication.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding and to solve problems.
- Ability to be flexible in a dynamic work environment.
