Dispatcher - Intermodal

Job Description and Responsibilities

• Provide excellent customer service and be willing to help wherever needed, serving as the main line of communication with contractors.
• Assign loads to contractors in a timely and efficient manner.
• Inform Customer Service Representatives of all developments throughout the day to keep customers updated.
• Monitor contractors’ Hours of Service (HOS) to route and prioritize their schedules to maximize turnaround.
• Update the database in a timely manner with appropriate route, delivery status, and time stamps.
• Document in the Transportation Management System (TMS) for delays, dry runs, yard stops, missed loads, appointments, etc.
• Communicate contractor pay, chassis availability, and appointment times.
• Track order costs and billing information.
• Confirm contractors’ completed delivery information.
• Plan where empty containers need to go.
• Schedule emergency and non-emergency calls and record significant information.
• Understand and manage cut-off times for deliveries to ensure proper scheduling.
• Solve contractors’ issues in a timely and professional manner.
• Schedule work: Monday - Friday, 6am - 4pm in office and on call until 7pm with some weekend work.

Minimum Required Qualifications

• A high school diploma or equivalent; a college degree is preferred.
• 1-3 years’ experience in the intermodal industry; dispatch experience is preferred.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Outlook, as well as overall computer skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong conflict resolution and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to multi-task while maintaining a positive attitude.
• Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to prioritize tasks.
