Dispatcher I

About the role

The Dispatcher I oversees and documents the pickup and delivery of local shipments, coordinating and communicating shipment information between drivers and delivery agents. This role offers flexibility in start times, with opportunities for extra hours on weekends if applicable.

Responsibilities

• Route local freight and dispatch drivers.
• Perform dock checks and track shipments.
• Collaborate with dock staff to ensure movement of freight.
• Enter timely event data (pickup, delivery, proof of delivery) into MyAIT & AS400 tracking systems.
• Provide customer service to identify and meet specific customer needs.
• Answer and make customer inquiry calls, addressing concerns and complaints.
• Assign driver load planning based on local mapping and appointments.
• Prioritize rushed, urgent, or last-minute shipments.
• Perform other duties as assigned based on business demands.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED equivalency required; Associate Degree or equivalent preferred.
• 0-3 years of experience in Freight Forwarding or related customer service/operations roles.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office.
• Previous experience with AS400 preferred.
• Strong problem-solving and multitasking skills with an ability to develop innovative solutions.
• High attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Strong geographic and mapping skills with a sense of direction for route building.

Pay

The wage range for this position is $22.70–$32.00 per hour, varying based on geography, knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience.
