Position Information

St. Lawrence University (St. Lawrence) seeks applications for a collaborative and strategic leader to serve as its next Director of Civil Rights Compliance & Title IX Coordinator. This position is an on-site role; the anticipated start date is August 2026.

In Fall 2025, the university successfully launched SLU Thrives—organizing the student experience around seven dimensions of well-being. This framework provides common language to guide students in building skills and habits to manage their well-being, including prevention education and community engagement. Additionally, in 2024, St. Lawrence, through the Commission on Laurentian Values, identified the values of Listen, Respect, Engage to serve as a tenet in this pursuit. This work continues to be integrated across multiple facets of the student experience, aiding in the ways students understand how to live, learn, and engage across their experience.

The Director of Civil Rights Compliance and Title IX Coordinator Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Student Life & Associate Dean of Students, the Director of Civil Rights Compliance and Title IX Coordinator serves as the University Title IX, Title VI, 504/ADA Coordinator and assists with St. Lawrence University’s compliance with equal opportunity and civil rights laws and regulations. Manages day-to-day operations with compliance obligations pursuant to but not limited to: Titles VI and IX; the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Title VII, New York State Enough is Enough, and other local, state, and federal laws regarding discrimination and harassment in education.

This role also partners with and integrates prevention education, particularly around sexual wellness and sexual violence prevention. This role reports to the Assistant Vice President for Student Life & Associate Dean of Students, with dotted lines of support to the Vice President for Student Life and Vice President & General Counsel.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership and oversight of Title IX, Title VI, 504/ADA.
  • Manage intake, investigatory, hearing, outcome, and support processes associated.
  • Advise senior leadership on matters involving discrimination, harassment, sexual misconduct, and retaliation.
  • Promote a campus environment that supports accountability, education, and compliance with civil rights obligations (Title IX, Title VI) through policy development, training, and cross-campus collaboration.
  • Partner across campus (to include Human Resources, Athletics, Residence Life, Safety & Security, Student Activities, Student Success, Intercultural Engagement, SLU Thrives, and other partners) on prevention education and learning opportunities.
  • Evaluate and implement training (online, in-person, and through partnership) to ensure compliance is met and fosters a campus culture that promotes prevention, compliance, and pro-social behaviors.
  • Develop and partner with University departments on prevention education efforts, aligning office goals with shared approaches to campus prevention education.
  • Serve as Institutional Title IX and Title VI Coordinator, ensuring compliance. Make recommendations to appropriate division head and/or Human Resources as appropriate.
  • Serve as institution 504/ADA Coordinator. Manage associated grievance processes and partner with applicable areas on practice and process.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Assistant Vice President for Student Life & Associate Dean of Students, or Vice President for Student Life

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in higher education administration, law, public policy, human resources, or similar field required
  • Minimum four years’ experience in Title IX
  • Experience leading and managing compliance related processes
  • Understanding of residential, liberal arts higher education

Preferred Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) preferred
  • Experience in educational programming, prevention-related programming preferred
  • Experience working in residential, liberal arts higher education preferred.

Salary

$85,000 - $95,000 annually
