About the role
The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) seeks a Director of Learning Technologies to advance teaching and learning through the effective use of technology. The Director will manage and support the use of learning technology solutions, evaluate the service portfolio, and provide vision and direction as UAB's needs and opportunities evolve. The Director will also partner with various offices within the Provost's Office and support faculty and academic units.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and mentor a team with varied expertise (e.g., LMS administration, instructional technology, media production, accessibility support, or faculty support services)
- Evaluate and set priorities for the office's service portfolio
- Manage vendor relationships, contracts, renewals, and budgets for major learning technology platforms
- Partner with faculty, academic units, IT, disability support, compliance, and teaching and learning leaders
- Balance immediate operational needs with long-term planning and innovation
Requirements
- Master's degree in a related field required
- Five (5) years of related experience required
- Graduate degree in instructional technology, educational leadership, higher education administration, curriculum and instruction, information systems, information technology, educational media, communications, or a closely related field preferred
- Experience supervising staff, managing budgets, leading cross-functional projects, and supporting accessibility initiatives preferred
- Strong hard skills in learning management system administration and oversight, educational technology implementation, budget management, supervision of professional staff, vendor/contract management, accessibility compliance and digital content remediation, online proctoring systems, and faculty support for instructional media production preferred
- Experience with project management, policy development, reporting/assessment, and collaboration with academic and IT units preferred
