About the role
The Record Office is a complex work area responsible for the interpretation of court documents, intake and release of all prisoners, transfer of prisoners within and outside of the Department, processing of all pending felony charges and outstanding felony warrants. The Record Office ensures the daily prisoner count is accurate based on the completion of the daily bulletin and review of all movements into and out of the facility.
Responsibilities
- Research and analyze data from MDOC and outside agency databases and prepare reports on a daily basis to assist other facility staff.
- Review and interpret data from the Law Enforcement Information Network (LEIN), Offender Management Network Information system (OMNI), Offender Management System (OMS), and Michigan Criminal Justice Information Network (MiCJIN) to complete all tasks.
- Perform data entry, file maintenance, and technical duties related to prisoner misconducts.
Required Education and Experience
Education: Education typically acquired through completion of high school.
Departmental Technician 7: One year of experience performing administrative support activities equivalent to the 7-level in state service.
Departmental Technician 8: One year of experience performing administrative support activities equivalent to the 8-level in state service. OR One year of experience as a technician or paraprofessional equivalent to the entry level in state service.
Departmental Technician E9: One year of experience as a supervisor of administrative support activities equivalent to the 9-level in state service. OR One year of experience performing administrative support activities equivalent to the 9-level in state service. OR Two years of experience as a technician or paraprofessional, including one year of experience equivalent to the intermediate level in state service.
Alternate Education and Experience
Departmental Technician 7: Completion of two years of college (60 semester or 90 term credits) may be substituted for the experience requirement.
Departmental Technician 8: Possession of a Bachelor's degree may be substituted for the experience requirement.
Departmental Technician E9: Possession of a Bachelor's degree and one year of job-related experience may be substituted for the experience requirement.
Additional Requirements
- The Department of Corrections may screen out job applicants who have been convicted of a felony in accordance with Public Act 191 of 2017.
- Applicants who have been convicted of a misdemeanor or felony are ineligible for employment with the Department of Corrections until satisfactory completion of any sentence imposed, including parole or probation.
- All employees must meet high ethical standards and report any possible conflict of interest.
- Attach a resume identifying specific experience and dates of employment (month/year and hours per week).
- Attach a copy of an official transcript if you wish to receive credit for education. Unofficial or web-based transcripts are not accepted.
- Provide at least three professional references including phone number, address, email, and fax number. Current MDOC employees must include their current supervisor.
- New hires and returning employees (after more than two years away) will complete Non-Custody New Employee Training (NCNET) with 40 or 80 hours of initial in-person training based on offender contact level and job classification, plus additional online training. Overnight travel may be required.
