About the role
The Michigan Department of Corrections is seeking candidates for a 2nd (2:30PM - 11:00PM) or 3rd (10:30PM - 7:00AM) shift position. This role involves monitoring GPS and Curfew monitored offenders, responding to messages for offender violations and equipment problems, and processing tips from the MDOC website.
Responsibilities
- Monitor GPS and Curfew monitored offenders
- Respond to messages for offender violations and equipment problems
- Take statements via the telephone from parolees and probationers
- Give specific instructions to troubleshoot equipment
- Distinguish between "equipment malfunction" and "offender violation" alarms
- Specialize in warrant entry for escapees and absconders in LEIN and USDOJ systems
- Process tips received from the MDOC Website "Most Wanted" Section
- Ensure offenders scheduled to discharge from parole are free of wants and warrants by reviewing LEIN & NCIC records on weekends and holidays
- Adapt to transitory/temporary equipment while maintaining expertise in primary equipment and software
Requirements
- Departmental Technician 7: One year of experience performing experienced-level administrative support activities equivalent to the 7-level in state service.
- Departmental Technician 8: One year of experience performing administrative support activities equivalent to the 8-level in state service.
- Departmental Technician E9: One year of experience as a technician or paraprofessional, including one year of experience equivalent to the intermediate level in state service.
- Alternate Education and Experience: Departmental Technician (Trainee) 7: Two years of experience in a 7 level or higher non-administrative support ECP Group One classification, or one year of experience as a first-line supervisor in an ECP Group Three classification.
- Departmental Technician 7: Completion of two years of college (60 semester or 90 term credits) may be substituted for the experience requirement.
- Departmental Technician 8: Possession of a Bachelor’s degree may be substituted for the experience requirement.
- Departmental Technician E9: Possession of a Bachelor’s degree and one year of job-related experience may be substituted for the experience requirement.
Qualifications
- Required Education: Typically acquired through completion of high school.
- Additional Requirements: Must meet high ethical standards and report any possible conflict of interest.
Skills
- Ability to troubleshoot equipment issues
- Knowledge of GPS and Curfew monitoring systems
- Communication skills for taking statements and giving instructions
- Ability to distinguish between "equipment malfunction" and "offender violation" alarms
- Experience with warrant entry procedures
- Ability to adapt to temporary equipment changes
