About the role

This position serves as the training and development analyst for the Michigan Department of State (MDOS). The role involves working extensively with data from SOM-LC, Business Objects, Articulate, InDesign, surveys, employment records, and other sources to gather insights and make recommendations for process improvements and strategic goals.

The analyst is responsible for creating training materials and modules for all MDOS employees and new hires, collaborating with training liaisons from each department to identify and support training needs. As part of the OHR DEI & Training Team, this role integrates DEI training, engagement, and professional development to advance MDOS and statewide MI-DEI goals. The position also handles confidential employee and applicant demographic information for reporting and evaluation purposes.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze data from multiple sources (SOM-LC, Business Objects, Articulate, InDesign, surveys, employment records) to derive actionable insights and recommend process improvements.
  • Develop training materials and modules for MDOS employees and new hires.
  • Collaborate with departmental training liaisons to assess and address training needs.
  • Integrate DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) training and professional development initiatives to support statewide goals.
  • Manage and report on confidential employee and applicant demographic data.

Requirements

  • Possession of a bachelor’s degree in any major.
  • For Departmental Analyst 9: No specific professional experience required.
  • For Departmental Analyst 10: One year of professional experience.
  • For Departmental Analyst P11: Two years of professional experience, including one year equivalent to the intermediate (10) level in state service.

Alternate Qualifications

  • For Departmental Analyst 9 - P11: High school diploma or equivalent, plus at least two years of full-time active-duty military experience at or above the E-6 level, may substitute for the education requirement.
  • College credits may substitute for up to half of the required experience (one year of college education = one quarter of required experience).

Applicants with a degree from a foreign college or university must provide a credential evaluation from an accepted organization unless the degree is recognized by the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).

Additional Information

  • This is a full-time position with eligibility for state benefits.
  • Newly hired state employees must pass a pre-employment drug test prior to appointment.
  • A criminal background check will be conducted due to the nature of the work; employment is conditional upon eligibility.
