Crisis Triage Worker - Deflection Metrosafe Grant

About the role

Receives and triages calls sent to the Behavioral Health Hub from MetroSafe call takers. Provides crisis and suicide intervention over the telephone to callers needing emergency assistance, identifies and suggests appropriate organizations and service providers using a provided database, connects callers with mobile crisis response when appropriate, and monitors callers' situations through case follow-up.

Responsibilities

• Document and maintain accurate, thorough records of all telephone interventions during the work shift.
• Assess situations, engage with callers, develop rapport, and de-escalate crises.
• Develop crisis plans utilizing individual strengths and available community resources to resolve immediate crises.
• Facilitate follow-up interventions with individuals.
• Determine appropriate levels of care during crises and arrange referrals.
• Work collaboratively with law enforcement, families, county departments, schools, acute care providers, and other community resources to coordinate crisis resolution and referrals.
• Communicate pertinent information on a timely basis to persons in crisis, MetroSafe call takers, LMPD, SCS, and other appropriate parties while preserving dignity and privacy.
• Perform other duties as assigned, including responding to emergency coverage needs.
• Facilitate a culture of openness and collaboration to ensure accurate, quality crisis assistance and documentation.
• Attend and participate in staff and team meetings.
• Utilize person-centered and trauma-informed approaches in all interactions.

Requirements

• Associate degree required; Bachelor’s degree in Sociology, Social Work, Psychology, Special Education, Human Services, or a related field preferred.
• Minimum of six months’ experience in social services.
• No company or personal vehicle usage required.

Physical Demands

Position has no unusual physical demands. May involve modestly unpleasant situations such as offensive language from callers.
