About the role

Join our team and make a difference in your community as a Crisis Intervention Worker for the Human Services Department. This role assesses and establishes safety for consumers in crisis situations in Sauk County and initiates access to substance use and mental health services. The position provides monitoring, brief intervention, and time-limited case management for individuals with urgent substance use and/or mental health concerns, supporting them through connecting with appropriate services or resources.

Responsibilities

• Provide daytime mobile and/or telephone-based crisis assessment and response.
• Screen and assess for substance abuse, mental health, and psychosocial needs, including risk of self-harm, harm to others, vulnerability, and/or need for immediate voluntary or involuntary placement or referral.
• Facilitate involuntary and voluntary admissions to hospitals, crisis stabilization beds, and detoxification facilities.
• Assist consumers in connecting to medical care or other needed community resources.
• Create crisis and safety plans, including intervention information, historical data, prevention efforts, and steps to avoid unnecessary out-of-home placement and/or hospitalization.
• Provide brief intervention and/or supportive counseling to alleviate psychological distress, including follow-up or check-in calls.
• Provide crisis case management for consumers with urgent needs pending entry into Sauk County Human Services Programs or other community services.
• Assist with navigating insurance benefits and eliminating barriers to mental health or substance use care.
• Consult and coordinate with community partners (schools, law enforcement, medical hospitals, psychiatric hospitals, crisis staff from other counties, mental health clinics, and substance use professionals) to facilitate an integrated approach to treatment and a coordinated crisis response.
• Attend individual and group crisis supervision.
• Complete accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record.
• Participate in agency committees.
• Provide information regarding substance use and mental health to the public, schools, and civic groups.
• Participate in ongoing professional training and development.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or a related field.
• Crisis intervention experience.
• Valid Wisconsin State Motor Vehicle Operator’s License.

Preferred Qualifications

• Certified Social Worker (CSW) and/or Licensed Substance Abuse Counselor (SAC-IT, SAC, CSAC) in Wisconsin or eligible to obtain within twelve (12) months of start date.
• ASAM Training and Experience.

Schedule

Standard working hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 am until 4:30 pm. Hours are subject to change, and additional hours may be required.
