CRIME ANALYST II
About the Role
The Crime Analyst (CA) II, under the direction of a Criminalist Supervisor, plans, coordinates, and conducts statewide DNA sample collection training for law enforcement personnel under California Penal Code Section 296 and related codes for inclusion of the resultant DNA profiles in the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS). Additional duties include:
- Performing complex identification duties to determine offender and offense eligibility for DNA sample submission and database entry.
- Evaluating eligibility for expungement of DNA samples and profiles.
- Participating in special projects independently or as part of a team to increase the accuracy of DNA sample submissions and improve overall DNA sample collection practices statewide.
- Managing the State’s supply of DNA sample collection kits.

Pay
Monthly salary range: $5,189.00 - $6,701.00. New to State candidates will be hired at the minimum salary of the classification or the minimum of the alternate range when applicable.

Location & Telework
This position is located in the Division of Law Enforcement, Bureau of Forensic Services, Jan Bashinski DNA Laboratory in Richmond, Contra Costa County.
This position may be eligible for hybrid telework (maximum of two weekly telework days) for eligible applicants residing in California, subject to the approval of the Criminalist Supervisor and program need, upon completion of training. Employees not residing in California are not eligible for telework. Regardless of telework eligibility, all employees may be required to report to the position’s designated headquarters location at their own expense.
