What You’ll Do
- Assume complete responsibility for project construction ensuring safe, high quality, timely and cost-effective execution of project work with minimal guidance from senior level leadership
- Function as the sole Design Group job-site superintendent
- Impart knowledge of principles of construction, including forming and placing of concrete, process piping, crane operations and erection of structural steel, installation of cladding on buildings, completion of roofing, plumbing, electrical and HVAC, interior finishes, and installation of manufacturing equipment
- Read and interpret construction plans; make real time updates to redline drawings and ensure subcontractors do the same
- Navigate and learn new construction management software in an efficient manner
- Manage inspection process from progress inspection to Certificate of Occupancy
- Participate actively in development of the construction schedule including phasing, critical path and long lead procurement
- Create site logistics plans identifying trailer location, material storage, access points, gates, safety requirements, signage, and temporary utilities
- Review and provide feedback to ensure budget is set up correctly for Site General Requirements
- Provide technical expertise and constructability review throughout the pre-construction process including reviewing the construction plans, specifications, as well as advising the project manager of issues and/or deficiencies and generating internal RFI log of issues
- Buyout/Scope of work: Supports the preconstruction team with writing and reviewing the scopes of work per divisional breakout out of work. Understand subcontractor and supplier contract scopes
- Participate in trade partner interviews and ensure trade partners ability to meet the project schedule
- Safety: Reviews and identifies all High-Risk activities with the work and ensures proper planning/approvals are taken prior to performing. Reviews subcontractor safety plans and ensures High Risk Safety activities mitigations measures are in place prior to the performance of the work. Sets example for site safety and manages subs ensuring compliance with Design Group’s HSEQ guidelines and procedures along with all local requirements (OSHA, USACE EM385.1.1) and Site safety requirements
- Maintains site safety, ensuring compliance with all safety standards and documentation
- Manages subcontractor start-up meeting prior to the beginning of the scope and lead subcontractor coordination meetings
- Directs all work with subcontractors, ensuring compliance and adherence to the project schedule production and duration of work
- Tracks material/equipment deliveries and subcontractor start dates
- Ensures all work is completed per plans and specs, and reviewed for compliance with design documents
- Manages the punch-list process and close-out procedures with the off-site Project Manager before the work commences
- Ensures punch list corrections are completed and obtain owner signoff
- Ensures that the most up-to-date contract documents are being utilized by the trade partners
- Supports Project engineering team on resolving RFI issues if complex or related to constructability
- Facility Commissioning: Leads/Supports, installation, start-up, testing, and commissioning, and turnover of Facility mechanical and electrical equipment
- Financial: Supports Review monthly owner pay application to confirm sub work in place matches sub billing amounts
- Mentoring: Responsible with PM for mentoring construction PE’s and interns
- Builds clear communication channels: Displays a professional demeanor and fosters positive relationships with local communities
- Collaborates with Project Safety Manager, Project Manager, Quality Control, and Architecture & Engineering design team
- Motivates others, uses professional negotiation skills, and conflict resolution skills to enforce contracts and drive successful outcomes
- Conducts all business in an ethical manner to serve the customer and increase the good will and success of Design Group
- Travel: Travel to regional construction sites (this may require temporary lodging/living arrangements for extended time periods)
- Work shifts may include nights, weekends, and holidays
What You’ll Bring
- A minimum of ten years of experience as a construction site superintendent on industrial projects
- Recent construction site superintendent experience working on construction projects involving industrial facilities & structures (Cold Storage Distribution Centers, Food & Beverage Processing, Packaging, & Distributions Centers, Life Science and Advanced Technology Manufacturing Facilities, Industrial Tilt Wall Distribution Centers, ASRS Robotics Distribution Centers, Data Centers, Clean Room/Dry Room Construction, MEP Driven Projects)
- A record of successful completion of industrial projects with values ranging from $500K to $100M
- Proficiency in Microsoft (Outlook, Word, Excel, Project), Procore, Bluebeam, CAD
- Experience working within active operating manufacturing facilities (preferred)
- OSHA 30 certification
- A willingness to travel for extended periods of time for construction project requirements including installation and start-up activities, client and company sponsored meetings, trainings, industry related seminars, forums, and conventions (work shifts may include nights, weekends, and holidays)
- A bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, construction management, or a related technical field or equivalent experience as a construction site superintendent for large industrial or manufacturing structures
