About the role

The Technical Delivery Manager (TDM) is a senior leader within the Technical Services Unit (TSU) dedicated to the delivery of technically superior products and services, staff development and project portfolio profitability.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees delivery of technically superior products and services
  • Facilitates delivery and commitment of staff for specific assignments, in coordination with the Regional Team Leaders (RTLs) and client service groups
  • Ensures technical excellence of the work performed as well as compliance with Quality Management standards and Health and Safety procedures
  • Collaborates with other TDMs, RTLs, Practice and Discipline Leaders within the Program Services Group, as appropriate, to share work and staff across geographic boundaries to meet goals
  • Manages a team of Regional Team Leaders within PSG
  • Promotes participation in the Career Compass Program, in coordination with Regional Team Leader, and monitors pairing success
  • Participates in appropriate TKM Communities of Practice, and ensures that RTLs and staff actively participate
  • Identifies and nominates Approved Project Managers, Project Technical Leaders and Project Managers in-Training in coordination with the client service groups and RTLs
  • Mentors and coaches the RTLs working with their teams to develop their career as well as develop CDM Smith’s future leaders
  • Coordinates annual focal point review process for region
  • Effectively recognizes employees within the region
  • Responsible for delivery of chargeable salaries, control of non-chargeable salaries, operating income, indirect expenses and delivery of targeted actual profit margin of the work performed by the group
  • Provides input to the TSU’s annual business and profit plan
  • Aids Practice Leaders, Discipline Leaders, and Client Service Units in meeting their sales growth goals, by providing the appropriate number, skills and location of employees
  • Partners with other TDMs and the Client Service Units to identify specific large and/or strategic opportunities
  • Develops a long-term staffing plan that meets growth goals, while achieving an appropriate staffing mix
  • Provides oversight and technical guidance on the preparation of moderate to highly complex sections of management consulting reports
  • Led the creation of moderate to highly complex recommendations for improvements to client programs
  • Contacts clients to collect or review datasets and/or presentations
  • Provides project status updates to clients, as required
  • Manages implementation plans as appropriate
  • Collaborates with sales staff to create proposals in response to current and potential client requests for proposal (RFPs)
  • Reviews draft proposals for adherence to firm, industry, state, local and federal regulations and best practices
  • Meets with current and potential future clients to review their current and future organizational needs
  • Provides technical guidance and training to more junior staff
  • Mentors more junior staff and develops them for future growth within the discipline and firm
  • Performs other duties as required

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 15 years of related experience
  • Domestic and/or international travel may be required

Skills & Abilities

  • Expert knowledge of corporate governance practices, organization design principles, accounting principles, finance, supply chain management, and organization management
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to understand highly complex technical, professional and business materials
