About the role
The Communications Coordinator will be responsible for researching, writing, and editing various materials for media, and presenting information for the Oklahoma Military Department.
Responsibilities
- Establishes, develops, and maintains contact with the Oklahoma National Guard Public Affairs Office, media, professional, and civic organizations, and other special interest groups to promote agency programs.
- Prepares, edits, coordinates, and distributes news releases.
- Prepares talking points, agency newsletters, brochures, web pages, broadcast scripts, and other agency informational releases; coordinates major public relations or advertising campaigns for agency programs.
- Manage the program’s social media accounts including Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, and Instagram – developing regular posting schedules, and driving audience engagement.
- Review digital media analytics to evaluate campaign performance, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions.
- Develops special educational and promotional materials for presentation at exhibits, fairs, festivals, conferences, and schools; conducts tours of agency.
- Serves as photographer for the agency.
- Serves as project leader for special PR projects of the agency programs.
Requirements
This is a full-time state position that provides a percentage of matching contributions to employees’ retirement plans, 11 holidays, and a minimum of 15 days of annual and sick leave per year. The state also offers a comprehensive benefits package, including a benefit allowance to offset the cost of insurance premiums for employees and their eligible dependents.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, English, or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience in writing and editing, radio and/or television, public relations, or serving as a public information officer.
- Formal training/experience in photography and photo editing, or willingness to attend local, basic photography/editing training within 90 days of employment.

- Advanced knowledge of English usage, including grammar and composition;
- of public relations principles and techniques;
- of accepted styles for materials released to various media;
- of media sources and their capabilities;
- of visual graphics and video techniques;
- of agency’s objectives;
- and of editing techniques and procedures.
