Summary

A dynamic communications professional is sought to engage the community for Metropolitan Energy Center. The Communications Coordinator will execute the organization's communications strategy, manage content creation across various platforms, and support advocacy efforts.

About the Role

The Communications Coordinator works closely with department heads and program personnel to meet their communication needs and enhance audience engagement. Creativity and storytelling are encouraged.

Responsibilities

  • Implement communications policies and procedures.
  • Create and manage communications plans and media kits for major initiatives.
  • Assist in developing internal staff training on communication strategies.
  • Collaboratively produce concurrent communications projects from concept to completion.
  • Research and synthesize information for timely and impactful communication.
  • Produce media content for day-to-day and event support, including:
    • Design and layout print and digital materials.
    • Social media posts, shares, and responses.
    • Emails, blogs, press releases, and newsletters.
    • White papers and technical reports.
  • Update web content in collaboration with IT support.
  • Produce and edit video content to promote MEC’s initiatives.
  • Distribute strategic communication materials aligning with MEC’s mission.
  • Prepare annual reports, donor letters, newsletters, and fundraising scripts.
  • Support event planning and messaging to ensure impactful audience engagement.
  • Be present for events to take pictures and video for future updates.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Marketing, Graphic Design, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Two to three years of experience in a communications role, preferably in the nonprofit or environmental sectors.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Proficiency in graphic design and experience with Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Experience in digital communications, web design, content management, and video production.
  • Understanding of environmental justice and ability to communicate clearly and effectively on the right to a healthy environment and the protection of human rights and sustainable development.

Qualifications

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to solve complex problems and adapt to changing circumstances.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, WordPress, and content management systems.

Skills and Competencies

  • Leadership Skills: Proactive self-starter, able to work independently and collaboratively, lead projects, and foster a collaborative team environment.
  • Organizing Skills: Ability to conduct multiple concurrent tasks with attention to detail and accuracy, adhere to deadlines.
  • Industry Knowledge and Proficiency: Deep knowledge of communications, especially in nonprofit and environmental advocacy; Ability to use traditional and digital media to communicate complex messages.

Benefits

Visit MetroEnergy.org/Careers to view details about work environment and standard benefits. MEC has adopted a full-time work week of 35 hours, or 1,820 hours per year. Mandatory core work hours are 10-3, M-F. Annual salary range: $47,000 – $52,500.
