We are searching for a student employee to assist in providing technical support for the faculty, staff, and students across nine departments in the College of Arts and Letters. The student assistant will work directly with the Head IT Consultant to ensure the smooth operation of all printers, computers, and other electronic devices. Responsibilities include maintaining and repairing several computer labs across campus, installing software, replacing peripherals, and cleaning machines for both Mac and Windows systems.

Responsibilities

  • Taking phone calls and making appointments
  • Assisting faculty and staff with computer issues in person or remotely
  • Resolving printer issues (paper jams, toner replacement, etc.)
  • Replacing hardware and repairing/upgrading machines
  • Maintaining lab, faculty, and staff computers (desktops, laptops, tablets)
  • Resolving security vulnerabilities
  • Checking hostname/IP address and updating operating systems/software
  • Creating and updating FOG deployment images for labs
  • Adding/updating items in the inventory system
  • Following and updating documentation procedures
  • Demonstrating excellent interpersonal (verbal and written) skills

Requirements

  • Admission or registration as a CSU student
  • Maintain a 2.0 G.P.A. or greater per semester and cumulative
  • Enrolled in at least half-time units at CSUSB (6 units undergraduate; 3 units graduate)
  • International students must have full-time enrollment (12 units undergraduate; 6 units graduate)
  • Eligible to work in the United States (Social Security Card required for payroll)
  • Ability to learn and perform assigned work, follow oral instructions, and work cooperatively with faculty, staff, and students
  • Effective communication skills and appropriate English proficiency for the position

Preferred Qualifications

  • Major in Computer Science, Systems, or Engineering
  • Currently enrolled in or previously taken CSE3650 and CSE3660 classes

Skills, Knowledge, and Experience

  • Ability to comfortably use and troubleshoot both Mac and Windows machines
  • Basic knowledge of systems networking (IP, MAC, subnet mask)
  • Familiarity with printer maintenance (resolving paper jams, replacing toner cartridges, and paper)

Pay

Anticipated hiring range: $16.90 per hour. Compensation considers internal equity and experience.

Schedule

Part-time, temporary, seasonal position with a maximum of 20 hours per week, scheduled around the student’s class schedule.

  • Academic year hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
  • Summer hours: Monday through Thursday, 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM

Work is primarily based in University Hall, but tasks may require travel across campus.
