Kind of Work
Responsible for the maintenance of shop facilities and equipment, and the supervision of staff assigned to maintain and repair a variety of trucks, heavy road maintenance equipment, construction equipment, and auxiliary components.
Distinguishing Features of Work
An employee in this class is responsible for directing and supervising the maintenance of shop facilities and assigning or performing skilled mechanical work necessary to repair heavy equipment. The work is performed independently within established practices and under the Fleet Manager.

Selection Process

Minimum Qualifications (pass/fail):
Five years full-time verifiable experience performing the duties of a Heavy Equipment Mechanic;
OR, three years experience as an Equipment Operator Senior with five years of full-time paid, verifiable heavy equipment mechanic experience;
OR, seven years of full-time verifiable experience as a Blacksmith.
A Class ‘B’ Commercial Driver's License without an airbrake restriction.
Experience & Training Rating - 35% E&T; 30% Supplemental Questionnaire Points will be awarded for job-related experience and education exceeding the minimum qualifications. Only experience occurring during the ten most recent years will be used in determining this rating.

Oral Exam 35%: Candidates meeting minimum qualifications will be scheduled for the oral exam to be held on Monday, March 30, 2009. If three or fewer applicants qualify, the oral exam will be waived.
