Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepares Letters, Notice of Violation/Summons and sets hearing and compliance dates.
  • Conducts site inspections, verifying validity of complaint, composes consequent reports, and opens cases, referring relevant items to other government agencies.
  • Interprets County codes and determines/helps to meet permit and other requirements.
  • Maintains cases and reports any changes, keeping complainants informed, and works with owners to resolve violations and achieve compliance.
  • Prepares documentation for cases required to go before Hearing Officer.
  • Provides customer service: answers questions; assists public with preparation of building and zoning applications.

Budget Responsibilities

This position has no responsibility over any types of budget.

Project Responsibilities

Provides project research support on quality assurance projects.

Oral Communication Duties

This position explains County procedures or processes and negotiates or persuades.

Written Communication Duties

This position creates or edits documents, internal memos, emails, formal letters, reports and legal documents.

Interactions with the General Public

Always (More than 85% in a year) Interacts regularly with internal coworkers and other departmental personnel over the telephone, by email, and/or in person. Incidental contact with the public may occur as part of the work location.

Minimum Education/Directly Related Experience Required

  • Minimum Education Required: High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum Years of Directly Related Experience Required: Two (2) years relevant experience in code enforcement or familiarity of building codes; or equivalent education, training and experience.

Professional Credentials Required

  • Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License.

Work Environment

  • Uses standard office equipment, including a computer, in the course of the work.
  • Drives a motor vehicle to attend meetings and visit various work sites including outside construction sites.

Safety Risk Exposure

Incumbents in this position are required to constantly follow written safety procedures and manuals relevant to the division or department.
