About the role

The Neighborhood Services Division of Orange County Government seeks to hire Code Compliance Inspectors to ensure the health, safety, and welfare of Orange County communities through compliance with applicable zoning codes and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Detect and investigate potential code violations within unincorporated Orange County.
  • Issue violation notices and present cases to the Code Enforcement Board and/or Special Magistrate.
  • Prepare and maintain case files, including correspondence, photographs, and chronologies of events.
  • Interact with entities like the Orange County Sheriff's Office, International Drive Master Transit and Improvement District, and Chambers of Commerce to coordinate enforcement efforts.
  • Attend and make presentations to citizen groups.
  • Negotiate with citizens and business owners to achieve compliance with the County Code or provide alternative administrative action.
  • Respond to citizen inquiries regarding zoning and other County-related issues.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent with at least three years of experience in code compliance/enforcement, zoning, or a field investigative capacity.
  • Maintain a valid Florida driver’s license.
  • Maintain the Florida Association of Code Enforcements (F.A.C.E.) Fundamentals of Code Enforcement Certification within one year of employment.

  • Adept at discussing, explaining, and interpreting standards and codes.
  • Experience making presentations to groups and presenting information in formal settings.
  • Ability to cope with situations firmly, courteously, tactfully, and with respect for the rights of others.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions.

Pay Grade: 015 - From $25.00 to $32.49 / Hourly
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
